reflecting God's love

max lucado's a love worth giving took me a whole 2 months to finish because i found it so difficult. not difficult coz i couldn't find the time. difficult because it dealt with a lot of pertinent issues that seem to be bugging me so long i forgot when it all started.

i realised that the reason why i probably find it difficult to love people is because i am still not fully convicted of God's love for me. that because i do not totally know what it's like to be utterly loved unconditionally, i would be deficient in that area. but that alone does not explain the crust of the matter.

it made me realise that those times when i thought i was being selfless, it was really being selfish. that i was just satisfying that inner urge to be noble. that if i really do love someone, i would not be so interfering and let the person go forth and do as he wishes. as long as i have done my bit part as a friend or brother to tell him about the possible perils. to not add oil to fire when he fails, but to be there for the person.

this book, as with all lucado books, are books that merit mutliple readings. highly recommended. because reflecting God's love in the way we love is really about the most difficult thing in our ministry with people.
