in two different places

even when i finally decided that enough is enough for now. that i should rest and stop pushing myself onwards when i really should be resting. i find that i cannot tear myself away from the office.

some people just do not get it don't they? i let my guys come in an hour later than the rest because they sacrificed the entire night before doing home visits. it isn't much to me. if i had my way, i would let them come in after lunch. but it means a whole lot to them. that we as superiors care about them. value their contribution to the office.

she thinks it's nothing. it's all part of their duty. but trying getting her to work on public holidays. or getting her to stay a bit later. she lets the whole world knows she has a family to tend to. dinner to cook. and a whole load of rubbish. so you being old, a mother and a wife doesn't make us any less human beings with our own agendas. and she wonders how come the whole camp thinks that she is a witch. calling her a bitch would be considered disrespectful to all bitches -- she doesn't even come close.

and to get her way. she beats around the bush. my new boss hasn't officially taken over yet, but she uses his name to say that that he no longer endorses such time off's. thing is -- he hasn't officially taken over yet. yes, my old boss doesn't really care now that he is leaving. but that does not removes the fact that she is over-riding me. a higher authority than she is. doesn't she realise that sucking up doesn't mask her bloody incompetence. for the amount of things she tries to do behind my back whenever i am not in the office, she sure is a brilliant actress -- acting as though nothing has happened when she sees me the next day.

the welfare and morale of the guys in the office is my paramount concern. because i know that these people are not in the army because of duty, honour, country. face it. the clerks are there because they are forced to be there. and the only way to make them do things for you is to be at least humane to them. establish a working relationship with them. understand where they are coming from. and try to accomodate them as far as possible. of course there are the punks who take advantage. so be calculative towards these people -- but not everyone. generalising does not get you any where.

it's amazing how myopic people can be. a reminder for me not to be like that. and to persist in doing what i am doing. i was in the shoes of my men once, i know how it feels like to be totally underappreciated. i am just trying to do what my position can afford for me to.
