being mama's boy
it's really funny being mama's boy for the night. you should have heard her delight when i told her that i had no plans for Saturday night. you should have seen the extent she went to get me a good dinner. i had a fish all to myself. and my favourite steamed pomfret at that. curry chicken. brocolli with carrots among many others. it made me think. and i felt really bad.
over the years. i have yelled, shouted and abused my mom. well, u could say it was mutual coz she did the same to me. but seriously. as i looked back. if i had listened to her when i was in fairfield, i would not have gotten myself into the mess i am in now. everything she said. i knew she was right. but i just refused to listen.
how hurt she must have been each time i told her i value friends above family. her especially. how she used to sit me by my bedside and sayang me to sleep when i used to come back for the weekends when i was still a trainee in SISPEC. sore from the week's endeavours, she would sit in the darkness by my bed. listening to me whine, complain till i fall sleep. every week she would boil barley water and some dumb tasting liang cha for me so i won't be too heatiness accumulated in me. she knows i have got acute tonsilitis that can flare up if i don't drink enough water. you should have seen the gleam in her eye when as a cadet, i told her there was a distinct possibility i would get a desk job from 8 to 5 after i commissioned.
now she has become so open minded. as to accept that i may be a singer for a while after i graduate from university. i told her i want to pursue my dreams when i am still young. so i won't be having a stable job until i am 30 or something. my so-called friends think i am nuts. my mom, shockingly, encouraged me. she accepts that i may also be a roving reporter for BBC stationed in war-torn Iraq or Somalia. i guess as i grow older. she knows although mom still knows best. she also wants her son to be happy.
