culture shock?

here's what i read about culture shock in my sociology textbook: "the strain that people from one culture experience when they must reorient themselves to the ways of a new culture."

and reading on, it says rather interestingly, that "some cases of culture culture shock are so intense and unsettling that people become ill. among the symptoms are "obsessive concern with cleanliness, depression, compulsive eating and drinking, excessive sleeping, irritability, lack of self-confidence, fits of weeping, nausea."

those symptoms in italics. yup. i show evidence of all these since jumping onto the college life bandwagon. 5 out of 7. the culture of university life. shocking to the system.

what else to explain how come my immune system suddenly decides to dessert me. this is the second time i am ill in the last 3 weeks. and again after a full day of studying in the library.

and i am getting fed up with how slow academic reading can be. it's either my reading method is ineffective or there is too much to read. how do everyone else before me coped?
