the first day

8am. blk adm, nus, level 6, tutorial room 1. where i was suppose to have my first ever uni class. a harvard-styled writing seminar on news and the public. i reached at 5 past 8, thinking i was late. the lecturer turned up later than i did -- 1 whole hour later at 9.15am. apparently he got his schedule confused. and he thought he only had one class, when we reminded him that he has another one later coming up at 12 noon.

while waiting, the indian scholars actually started a whole round of self introduction. which was good. at least it dispelled some of my initial misconceptions about them. ah well, i have 4 years to know more about them. so still too early.

what i found difficult about the ang mo lecturer was his meandering style of talking and use of words. if not for mrs durai's efforts all those years ago at repairing my writing style, i wouldn't have understood what he typed in those hand outs.

then it was a 2 hour break which i had something to eat and i had earl grey tea at a cafe while trying to read. which was good. at least it got me testing out how it would be like with tutorials fitted in. and honestly i don't think squeezing my geog and sociology tutorials back to back from 2pm to 6pm after my neuroscience lecture from 12 to 2pm is a good idea.

the lecture today. i didn't stop writing at all. i had to muster every single brain cell to listen to my hong kong lecturer talk about neurons and supporting cells -- axons, trigger buttons et al. i was pretty amazed that i still maintained the ability to write increadibly fast while listening after 2 years of relative academic non activity.

i felt overwhelmed after that. even pondered whether i should regret coming onto the USP. but then again, i reckoned if i could at least half understood what he was talking about, i should not do that bad. in fact, i am kindda excited because if not for this module, i wouldn't have had done anything about something i would have liked to know more about.

have faith in Him, will travel. hang in there. and hang in tight. it's going to be one hell of a ride.

but first, i need to sleep a bit.
