the inert balance

" they were unable to cope with feelings of frustration or they lacked compassion and empathy -- and so they were forced to leave their jobs." -- selwyn hughes, everyday with jesus, 14 feb 04

my quiet time material today dealt with the matter of emotional intelligence. and how important it is to keep our emotions in check before they master us.

i thought about my stinct in the army so far. and i tried counting the number of times i got control of my emotions. and how i tried to justify my emotional tirades as just a case of mere passion in what i believe in. that it all boils down to my convictions. and my sense of justice.

how wrong.

so many times i lost the respect of somebody because i lost my cool. and though i felt i shouldn't have afterwards, i justified it within myself. so many times i lost the confidence of my friends in me bcause i whine so much. even when it's doing things God wants me to do. and are the things i know i want to do.

i need to keep my emotions in check. i need to learn to keep my mouth shut. i need to be listen more than i talk. i need to stop talking for the sake of talking. i need to be more considerate and not go on yakking and yakking non-stop -- getting so carried away in the process.
