travesty

the skies over millenium stadium in cardiff poured as if the heavens were crying over manchester united's inability to beat arsenal in regulation time despite dominating play. reyes got sent off with effectively the last kick of play time in extra time. and viola! the first f.a cup final to be decided on penalty kicks.

and manchester united lost after paul scholes missed his spot kick for manchester united.

it's so cruel the way the real arsenal didn't show up and how man utd ran the arsenal defence ragged - and still not win. the best team didn't win in this contest. it was a victory won by the tactical slyness of arsene wenger who played to the strengths of the players available to him.

without henry, he was forced to abandon arsenal's trademark wingplay and pace. they were almost ugly to watch. but man utd's endeavours were undermined by their inability to convert their numerous chances - they hit every single part of the goal, but the net itself.

but as the commentators said, arsene wenger has to find a way past man utd next season. fact remains they have not managed to beat man utd all season - they techically didn't beat man utd in this cup final since they won it on penalties.

yet man utd's performance tonight is reminscent of their problems all season. their lowest numbers of goals scored in a season in the 2004/05 session. i watch with interest how malcolm glazer's buy-out will affect the way man utd change in the post-season as they prepare to topple chelsea when the new season starts in august.

in other news, i think i just screwed myself by compounding my major problem. after an entire day spent hawking geography as part of my magazine launch at the geography booth at the arts open house, i find myself reconsidering the merits of a geography major. add this to the equation and i find myself grappling with sociology, political science, communications management and now, geography. AGAIN!

funnily enough, i never got down to drafting a major subject plan for geography. when i finally got down to it just now, i realised that i could actually like this more. and the attraction of geography is that it gives me a teaching subject, freeing me from having to do my english minor. but i know it's more than just that when i remember what made me decide to abandon geography at the end of sem 1 in the first place.

i guess i still have got time to decide. i hope i get my internship with sph. it will definitely go a long way in helping me decide. meanwhile, the east asian regional conference (earc) beckons and i have got tons to read and prepare because i am leading 7 Bible-study sessions lasting 1 and a half hour each in a week - that's like a whole semester's worth of BS in a week. and the organisers' definition of prior notice is like 3 days before the conference begins on tuesday.

i am so gone. 51 chapters of jeremiah to go.

Well, if i could have a nickel for every time Man Ure played eponymously and won over the Arsenal...

Justice...it all evens out at the end.

Go Arse!
