i just spent the last three days at aranda country club with my vcf contact group members. we were on our annual retreat and our theme this year was just REST. so other than worship, sharing and prayer in the mornings and evenings, we were left to nua by ourselves. i don't remember stepping out of the chalet much, but the girls went singing because we had complimentary karoke vouchers and some of them went swimming.
amazingly, when i am finally free to rest, i found it incredibly difficult to just do nothing.
in fact, i suffered massive withdrawal symptoms because there was no way i could check my emails. i found myself constantly thinking about things i need to be doing. it was especially bad on the first day - it was akin to cold turkey treatment. i thought so much about my laptop and all the emails about my magazine, that complaint i am handling for george and blogging.
but in the end, it was good. even though i slept quite little, my enforced separation for a while was good. it took my mind off a lot of things - although not completely, i felt very much rested spiritually and emotionally.
on my way back, as if to reward me for my barely-there obedience, i received a call from singapore press holdings. i had mailed my internship application on tuesday just before i met the rest for the retreat, and they had gotten back to me the moment they got hold of my application. so at 2.30pm today, i will be taking a 3 hour writing test that will determine whether i get to start work as an intern in june.
i was really overjoyed. and my fellow intern-friends were quite surprised they got back to me so quickly. i have to compile a brief dossier of my writing, which is proving to be quite a headache because of urm, let me just say self-imposed censorship, so that i wouldn't be censured and denied a place just for the contents of my essay.
and geosphere is going to be delivered tomorrow afternoon as well. but i forgot to get someone to receive the goods on my behalf in school tomorrow, coz of the test. but oh well, that's a double-bill for me. besides i am sure i can find someone in school preparing for the open house on saturday to help me receive those goods.
so a new day beckons. and for once, i am feeling excited about a test and not worried. ha!
