how can i forget?

at yesterday's final fellowship teaching for the academic year 04/05, rev. john ting talked about the role of christians in the marketplace. the whole "in the world, but not of the world" thing came into the equation. besides, the reminder to count the cost of following Jesus, there was just one thing that he said about christians not doing things the way they should that stuck in my mind.

just as people only abide by traffic rules when being watched, christians forget our identity in Christ all too easily.

holiness must be consistent in all aspects of our lives -- at home, in school, in church and everywhere else. do we suffer from "a holiness deficit"? do we have split personalities?

another thing that stuck in my mind was the encouragement not to endeavour how to add to our professional marketability, but rather to seek God about the areas that He wants us to serve in.

it struck a chord in me yesterday because i was reminded that all along, the crust of my major problem is what i partly perceived as an interest-marketability tension. political science is my perceived practical option. i find sociology interesting. communications trains me up a little more with the direct skills i need as a journalist. where is God in all of these?

to find out more about the communication management major, i actually emailed the head of department and she came back with a lengthy explanation that far exceeded my expectations. it turns out she also wants to meet up to talk a bit more about my expectations and such. really thank God for such eagerness to help.

thank God this is not distracting me too much from the actual task of studying. it's just that doing the political science readings is super tedious and time consuming.

my first paper is up next saturday morning -- linguistics. yuck!
