i usually start a new year with a whole host of resolutions. i remembered last year i had a detailed sheet of paper divided into three sections -- short term, medium term and long term resolutions. and i remembered spending so much time praying and pondering over them that on hindsight, i wondered if i was praying for God to help me realise all those plans rather than asking if they were of Him or me.
this year, i am not going to start the year with any of those dumb resolutions.
first, it's very time consuming. second, those thoughtfully crafted resolutions usually don't come to fruition at all. but i think the most pertinent reason here is that i think i really stop trying to being a control freak, and let God into the picture. key here is not to overplan.
i mean i already have a mental picture of how my schedule is going to be like this semester, but i don't want to plan like i did last year how i was going to mentor the boys. i am just going to go as God leads, and trust with the things that He will do and the doors He will open.
all i am going to do is to make the phrase "living sacrifice" as the key in my life this year. and i reckon everything will fall into place.
in other news, singapore beat myanmar to qualify for the final of the tiger cup. but what drama there was at the national stadium. i had wanted to go but the persistent rain held me back. there was crowd trouble reminscent of those i usually see on the telly that occurs in europe and south america. and on the pitch, the manner in which the myanmar team went berserk after each sending off is incredible. did they really think they could get away from their footbrawl they dished out last week in cheras? this japanese referee not only had my sisters and mother swooing over him, but i thought he handled the match very well given the language barrier and the farce that saw singapore overcome a 2 goal deficit to win 4-2 in extra time and 8-5 on aggregate. it's insane, but i wished i was there.
and meet the fockers. ah well. the baby's so cute -- even the way he muttered "ass-hule" was so adorable. the movie's a great laugh. maybe if i had watched the prequel, i would have find this subpar, but i didn't. one of those mindless movies you watch just to have a good laugh.
and just one more thing, interviewed this graduate of nus geography dept yesterday evening. and his passion for the subject was overwhelming. he actually questioned me on my decision to quit geography so bad i actually had second thoughts over it. i guess it's still quite raw. but it got a little too real for me -- he hated henry yeung too but still managed to avoid him till the end. i think i need to stop thinking about my major for now. just get through this second semester and then i have 3 months to decide.
