the truth

words by clement tan 2005

it's one thing to be prideful,
but it's quite another
when you're snubbed --
especially since you're just trying,
just trying to do a job
that you were appointed to do
by the very person
who snubbed you.

all of a sudden,
you become a mere commodity.
you are to be seen working,
but never to be heard.

all because you had an opinion
that was neither black nor white.

i know when i made the decision
to serve God and not man,
i have irrevocably
given up my rights as well.

but ignoring what i feel
despite not having the right to
is at best
foolishness disguised
as holiness.

how do i expect to communicate
my thoughts across
when everything has got to be
so bloody politically correct now.

you're someone i respect
and i don't want to hurt you
but somethings cannot be said
any other way
than it is meant to be intended.

the picture you paint
is too rosy, too pretty
too good to be true.
it's as if you don't want to deal
with the nasty things
that fiasco revealed.

you just want to move on
and pretend all's fine.

yet what precipitates
is a legacy of that fiaso
because your lenses got tainted
by that experience.

why do i even care?
should i even bother?

when i know you won't come out
of your realm of reality
and really listen
like you used to.

i don't dare to anymore.
