simple plan

my day started tragically today -- i found out my 100-dollar leather sandals are coming apart. i only bought them back in may at tangs. the soles on the right side is coming apart now. damn. oh man, how come when things fall apart in my life, it all fall apart together -- my red nike shoes are barely holding out, the zip on my nike bag has gone cranky and now this.

and just like my sandals, kerry's dreams of being the next american dreams have been shattered. in case you haven't heard, bush has just won a second term in office.

personally, i am glad that he won. not that his policies are any good, but he is in all actuality, the lesser of two evils. senator kerry's over-riding ability is his ability to point out the flaws of the bush administration -- and honestly that is not too difficult even for the lay person to notice. the handling of the iraq issue, the stand on gay marriages and america's place in the global economy -- all issues in this contest that present themselves quite obviously enough.

after the dust has settled, when it's time for kerry to give the americans an idea of the plans he may have for them, he simply said," i have a plan." period.

that my good lord, is never going to be enough to get you to the white house.

for all the debating talent that he is, i can't quite imagine how differently he might have handled the events of sept 11 or iraq any differently from the republicans' bush. not that bush is an angel and a super president. but it's more of a case of a the lesser of two evils.

and i think the american ambassador summed it best when he said there are 2 people he can imagine to be the happiest around -- the world happiest man is the british prime minister tony blair and the happiest woman in the world right now is...hillary clinton.

i thought it was damn funny, while highlighting a truth there. hillary clinton does present a better option for the democrats as their presidential candidate in 2008. kerry is at best a figurehead president -- and while republican presidents are traditionally figureheads a la the incumbent, democrat presidents have been noted to have some form of intellectual substance. pun totally not intended -- think bill clinton.

the downside to this whole hillary for president idea is that she currently lacks the political clout in the democrat camp. but that problem can be easily rectified with time.

hokay. time to get back to my readings now. and get over my expensive torn sandals.
