boundaries
when your personal space is intruded upon, we feel violated and understandably get upset and all. the thing about intrusion is that it involves a violation of our personal boundaries. when mom kept insisting on me doing something a certain way which i refused but still get it done her way anyway, it's an intrusion of my own space. and over time, because our boundaries get intruded upon so often, we lose our ability to respect the boundaries on other people in the process.
and because there is no regard for the boundaries of other people, people tend to descend into doing things for other people on the pretext that it is for 'the person's good' that we are doing it. while it is true some times that they really have the interests of others at heart, more often than not we do more than what we are supposed to be doing. they cannot control their lives, so they take to controlling the lives of others instead.
when boundaries are not adhered to, people make themselves vulnerable to other people hurting them. not intentionally, but more likely because we all have this in-built defence mechanism that kicks into being when we sense that we are being enroached upon.
for all those times i ventured into your personal space unneccessarily, my thousand apologies...
